Mark 9 records that Jesus cast a wicked spirit out of a young boy who had been tormented by it since birth. When his disciples asked why their attempts to do the same were fruitless, Jesus said, “This kind can only come out by prayer.” In this statement by our Lord Jesus we learn the secret for dealing with wickedness: prayer.
At the Pregnancy Resource Center we keep prayer at the center of everything we do because we have a powerful adversary and we can do nothing if we’re not connected to the Lord through prayer. This concept is not lost on those with the 40 Days for Life campaign, which is currently going on in cities all across the United States.
Like the PRC, the entire 40 Days for Life operation is both founded and reliant upon prayer.
The PRC is proud to partner with David Bereit and Shawn Carney, the leaders of the 40Days for Life effort. Their work is calling the Church to prayer and fasting, a 24-hour vigil in front of abortion clinics, and public awareness of the abortion issue.
Their campaign is designed to move people from their churches and homes to the sidewalk in front of their local abortion provider—to pray. The pray-ers’ presence there is peaceful; they are not an angry group of radicals trying to keep women from getting to the clinic. They’re simply there to pray.
I think David and Shawn are on to something…the same something Jesus was talking about in Mark 9. When I think of the spiritual battle that abortion is for the lives and souls of everyone involved, I am reminded that, according to Jesus, “This kind can only come out by prayer.”
Click on the link below and register for the Grand Rapids chapter of the 40 Days for Life effort. Once registered, find a vacant prayer slot on the vigil calendar and fill it. Take your pro-life preference to a point of personal conviction. Then, go to the sidewalk in front of our city’s abortion clinic and do spiritual battle there on behalf of the innocent lives being lost every day inside.
