I’m recommending the website below because it’s good at giving the parental (the consumer, if you will) perspective on “comprehensive” and “abstinence only” approaches to Sex Ed. If you have or work with children (or grandchildren) you need to know the difference.
It’s strange, but we would never want our children to “smoke safely” nor would we teach them how to drink and drive without incident, yet our culture persists in teaching them “safe sex.” The truth is there is no such thing. There is some risk reduction with some contraceptive methods, but to imply those methods make sex safe is misleading our children, and our experience at the PRC is most parents don’t understand this at all.
I encourage you to know what your school district is teaching in this regard, and insist on Abstinence Only education. A parent’s (or grandparent’s) voice on this issue has weight and is greatly valued by your school. Our children deserve the best, and even though “comprehensive” sounds better, the truth is it can have dangerous, even disastrous, outcomes for kids.
