Technology: don’t you love it?!
My cell phone can do lots of great things, but at 18 months old the lightning-fast advances in technology have made it already seem antiquated. So, now I’m considering upgrading to the Droid X as soon as it comes out!
Still, with all the swell things my new or existing phone can do, it’s unlikely that neither will ever be as significant as another piece of technology I’m going to purchase soon: a new ultrasound system for the PRC!
I’m able to do this because of a generous gift from the Knights of Columbus, a reverent band of do-gooders associated with the Catholic Church. Understanding how important the latest technology is to the life-saving efforts of the PRC, the Knights stepped up in a big way to create their own upgrade.
On June 23rd the Knights presented us with a check to purchase a state-of-the-art ultrasound system. It replaces one we think is in excess of 15 years; nobody really knows for sure.
The fund-raising efforts of the local and state-wide chapters of the Knights are matched by “Supreme” (the nation-wide order) and the new system will arrive in July.
The Knights certainly get one thing: ultrasounds save lives. And I’m amazed that in the midst of a national and intensely state-wide economic blight, they raised this amount of cash. They have a tenacious and passionate heart for mothers and their unborn babies.
Ultrasound systems produce pictures that are, quite literally, worth a thousand words. And a better system produces better pictures. Add to that the sight and sound of a pre-born baby’s heart beating and you build a pretty strong case for the fact that “it’s a baby in there.”
It’s not a blob of tissue; something else the Knights understand.
The system the Knights purchase for us will help break through any denial or misunderstanding on the part of moms who don’t yet comprehend the magnitude of their potential abortion decision.
Their gift will save lives, no question.
Many times the PRC provides images that are the very first pictures a mom has of her baby; and more often than not, she instantly bonds with her child because of them. What the Knights have done is opened an even clearer window to the womb and a chance at life for a baby whose fate may otherwise be hanging in the balance.
We at the PRC are grateful; but it’s the babies this system helps to find and save who will be ultimately indebted to the Knights—and the God they serve.
Today we’re thanking God for advancing technology…and for his tender-hearted warriors, the Knights of Columbus, who are advancing the truth about life in the womb!
Ride on, men!
